Forthcoming
Meetings 3rd June
Daphne Adams
Movements of the Heavenly Bodies and the effect on us.
Daphne Adams is an old friend and a good speaker, and this
will be an interesting talk especially if you believe in Astrology, I must admit
to being a sceptic but will attend with an open mind.
1st July
Outside meeting - Trellech
As this is high summer we thought that a trip back to Trellech
would be of interest to members, it is a village that has some interesting
places to visit including a castle mound, the Harold Stones a Holy Well and
possible a visit to the site of the medieval village, or town as there was a
time when Trellech was the third largest town in Wales, famous for iron work. We
will see if we can organise car pooling for those who would like to go.
September 2nd
Peter Golding
Experiences of an old dowser
No meeting in August but in September Peter Golding will give
a talk on his experiences over a long and busy life, he is well known to
us and works professionally in this field both dowsing and teaching others.
Picnic
We are having a Picnic on Saturday June 19th, NOT the 12th as
we said in the last newsletter,Janet Nicholls who will be our hostess will give
details at the next meeting including what to bring in the way of food to share,
she has an interesting farm house, see what you can find there, all are welcome
as this is the one meeting that we let children come to. The picnic is from
2.30pm until 7.00pm Janet will give directional details at the next meeting.

There will be a trip to see Crop Circles on in July as there
is a problem with the mini bus hire we will give final details as to time at the
June meeting. organised by our Chairman Isobel Willmott. Details at the next
meeting
Trip to Cumbria
September 14th to 17th
Isobel has worked hard to provide us with an interesting trip
in the autumn to Cumbria where there are a mass of interesting sites to visit,
we will have two minibuses to travel in and this will be a worthwhile
holiday break and the last one that she organised last
year was fantastic. There are two places left on the minibus at the moment but
please contact Isobel if you would like to come as there may be accommodation
problems.
Apart from the future outings and speakers covered elsewhere
there are a few items of general interest to member decided at the last
meeting. We will be purchasing a First Aid Kit for outside visits, also two sets
of flag markers sold by BSD these show where you have indicated by dowsing what
you have found in the ground, they press into the earth very easily.
We have 48 paid up members at the moment, more are very welcome.
Visit to Roll Right Stones
Rob Campbell
15 of us had a very enjoyable day at the Rollrights on Saturday.
The minibus beautifully driven by Glan as always. He did mention the possibility
of a handsome tip for his efforts. We arrived to find that the space shuttle had
landed right in the middle of the circle. Most of us realised before the day was
out that it was really only a replica. The game was probably given away by the
use of plant pots in place of thrusters nozzles.
There was plenty to dowse in the way of energies, no one missed
out on some valuable practice at the Circle, at the King’s Stone and at the
Whispering Knights some distance away. The site is such an appealing mystery
stretching back four thousand years and more.
We are told that the stones are local limestone. No doubt they
were chosen for their unusual shape ( as the King’s Stone ) and the unusual way
the material is pierced and pitted by many channels and cavities.
There, is a small charge for entry, a donation to the Trust
which aids maintenance. The King’s Stone and the Whispering Knights have been
fenced off a few feet from the stones, for quite a few years, but the main
Circle is very accessible and a delight to dowse. Parking is alongside the
entrance. As we discovered, a very pleasant place for the picnic.
Later in the afternoon we went to Oddington ( a village
apparently named after the god Odin, who also gave his name to an ancient stream
nearby ) where the old church completely absorbed our interest for an hour. Such
a mixture of styles mainly Saxon, Norman and modern (1970’s) restoration. Such a
mixture of energies there, inside and outside the church.
Generally peaceful and relaxing I thought. About three hundred
years ago someone rather overdid the planting of yew trees. The oldest according
to my reckoning being around 370 years old.
The most interesting part of the tour of the church was the
large wall painting (fresco ?) undoubtedly mediaeval which
was uncovered and restored in the 1970’s. One could quite easily
see why it was called the “Doom” painting. We set about thinking how
delightfully and brightly decorated churches would have been before Henry had is
way with them.
Many thanks to Rob Gillmor, to Glan Jones ( and possibly Rob
Campbell for the guarantee of good weather) for a delightful day.

Archeological Dowsing
Barry Goldring
This was a two part visit by Barry, firstly a talk given at
Ledbury Theatre as it was election night on how he started to dowse and how to
ask logical questions after asking May 1? - Can I? Should I? as he believes you
should always ask permission before you carry out any form of dowsing. one
important thing he stressed was asking what period in time was the site you are
dowsing occupied by what you have found, a difficult concept, but time dowsing
is very important to him and it is something we overlook, I did when we did the
practical at St Briavels and was way out on my dates with what I had found.
The second part of his visit was to a workshop at St Briavels
where we have permission to use a field and which has had multi layered
occupancy, not many of us unfortunately but good training, it was also freezing
cold!
Thank you Barry
