Crop Circle Day 2007

Four members met up with three members of the Slimbridge Group at the Barge Inn in the morning. It was a nice surprise too to be joined by David Dixon of Village Water and his two charming grand daughters for the day.

One record for the books, we visited 84 circles ( or was it 87 ? ), but to be honest most of them were in one vast formation in the East Field, and delightfully, no honesty charge for any of them. That is a super circle with loads of energy which caused some excitement. Nice to visit a reasonably fresh formation.

As usual we sampled the excellent value for money cuisine and staff friendliness at the Barge at lunch time.

We regrouped and set off for the West Kennett longbarrow, next to which should have been another formation. This, sadly, had been mown out by the farmer, much to the disappointment of the two younger ladies who had been looking forward specially to seeing the “Alice in wonderland” formation.  The Longbarrow held its usual fascination for us all, and some more dowsing confirmed the energies inside the inner chamber.

The gloomy weather had been a possible problem but had been rapidly forgotten ( or ignored ) by everyone. The worst we suffered was some drizzle and ocassional buffeting from the strong southwesterly.

A visit to Avebury for tea, and for some a visit to the church and the museum. Most of us have been to the stones a number of times before, and the others will be making another visit when much longer time can be can be spent on the stones.

We went scouting in the Cherhill area next for a formation said to have been a commissioned hoax for National Geographic Magazine. I thought it would be good for us to get the feeling of a hoax circle, but alas we were unable to find it.  Another formation had attracted out interest near the A4. We had a close look at this one which looked like a breakfast plate and two weetabix. We couldn’t reach this one though as strangely there were no tractor lines or any other apparent way in ( didn’t want to damage the crop ourselves of course ).

We made up for all this with a visit to Peter’s “Cathedral of Trees” at Knowle Down, next to the Ridgeway.  As usual, it didn’t let us down when it came to the strong but calm atmosphere and energies of the place.  A visit here is always a real whiz.
